PALS Adopt-A-Mile

Program

The Alabama Adopt-A-Mile program (Sponsored by Alabama PALS and the Alabama Department of Transportation) has over 1,800 participating groups adopting almost 3,000 miles of Alabama highways on a statewide basis. Marshall County PALS is proud to be part of this active campaign and urges each of you to consider doing your part and adopting a roadside and keeping it clean

By offering to Adopt a Mile as part of the Alabama PALS Adopt-A-Mile Program, you agree to keep a minimum of one mile of Marshall County highway roadside clear of litter (with a minimum of 4 major cleanups per year of your adopted roadside...bi-weekly walkover-cleanups are suggested). You can also adopt a "spot" or area and keep it clean.

This is a great opportunity for businesses, churches, scouts, school clubs, private home owners, civic organizations and community groups to not only help provide a clean environment to live, work and play, but as a reminder to others not to litter. (Keeping our roadsides clean will help save tax-payers money too, by volunteering a service that paid county and state employees usually provide.)

The Adopt-A-Mile program provides an excellent mechanism for concerned citizens to address the constantly increasing problem of roadside litter, and become personally involved in improving our environment.

Representatives of the business sector are especially urged to not only Adopt a Mile near their business, but to urge their employees to do the same near their home. Taking part in Adopt-a-Mile not only helps beautify our roads, but it also offers an opportunity to be a part of the community!

Perhaps you're an avid boater, fisherman or other water sports enthusiast. Help protect our water environment...ask about the PALS Adopt-A-Stream program too!

"Keeping our communities clean affects economic development, aesthetic beauty as well as the environment and our health, This is all about communities working together for
a better and healthier Alabama,” says Spencer Ryan, of Alabama PALS.
